Working with Funeral Director's and other Bereavement Care Professionals to address Mental Health Needs
Join us for this two-hour webinar where Dwight and his cofacilitator (to be confirmed) will talk about funeral directors and their mental health, as well as begin a conversation on the occupational stress injuries found among bereavement support workers. Dwight Thompson works primarily with couples, but he was also a fully licensed funeral director (class 1) in Ontario and both a funeral director and embalmer in Nova Scotia for 12 years. Dwight practices, supervises and teaches at the graduate level, and has a passion for helping other helpers help professionals who work in the bereavement support care industry. Dwight's background includes working with Military and Veterans and the range of occupational stress injuries which include Trauma, TBI's, Major Depression and Substance Use.
We will discuss the following:
Unique Characteristics of the Profession that Impact Mental Health
How stress and compassion fatigue affect this 24-7 profession.
Separating Bereavement Care Work from other Helping Work (Nursing, Law Enforcement, etc)
What we already know about mental health with FD's and BCW
