Shelley Colter works with individuals (16 years of age and older), couples and families. She is trained in several different modalities and tailors her treatment to the needs of her clients. Shelley strives to ensure that her clients are heard and validated, empowering them to discover and develop their unique strengths for resolution of personal conflict. Shelley offers supervision to both qualifying Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Marriage and Family Therapists to meet the requirements of CRPO and CACFT respectively.
Shelley is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic approaches, Object Relations, EMDR. She has extensive training with the Toronto Traumatology Institute as a clinical traumatologist.
Shelley is a fully qualified supervisor with both the Institute for Self In Relationship Psychotherapy and the Canadian Association For Couple and Family Therapists (CACFT).
Shelley specializes in supporting military personnel, veterans, first responders and their families who have been affected by work related stress, personal trauma, PTSD, loss and grief. She is a veteran of the Canadian military. Having served for over two decades with the Canadian Armed Forces, Shelley understands the challenges associated with operations, deployment and reintegration into the family and community.
Shelley is compassionate about assisting individuals, couples or families to understand and explore issues associated with sexual and/or gender identity and related challenges they may face. She has a special interest in working with survivors of the Canadian LGBTQ Purge. She also works with trauma, including sexual trauma in childhood and adulthood, post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, and anger.
